Host: Hello Sean Gardner welcome to The Crypto Blade community.

Sean Gardner: Hey guys

would it be ok if I gave away an NFT today too?

to my favorite question asker?

Host: That would be great. and, There will be a community round for live questions from participants 🙂

Sean Gardner: I’m going to give away this lucky sloth https://opensea.io/assets/0x495f947276749ce646f68ac8c248420045cb7b5e/74857273924061293339526985223456472152818821852613239829843962869983553257473

Host: Great, Let’s start the AMA session.

Are you ready?

Sean Gardner: I am Ready

1st Segment: Introduction

Host: First of all please introduce yourself, Your background and share an interesting story of how you got into crypto?

Sean Gardner: I’m an ex-advertising industry, a creative tech entrepreneur who has settled at the intersection of blockchain and music. Since 2017, me and the team behind Emanate have been applying the latest technology to solve the biggest problems in music.

I previously spent 12 years in the digital trenches of Australia’s top creative agencies including TBWA and DDB Sydney; an environment where I learned how to deliver world-first creative technology solutions under intense time and resource pressure.

Solving problems on Australia’s first iPhone campaigns with Vodafone, various eCommerce pilots, promotional AR in 2010, the first branded VR experiences in 2015, drone-powered UGC campaigns, and audio-activated fashion shoots; Sean had become adept to innovation and that’s when I discovered the blockchain.

Crypto quickly brought my passions together; innovation, technology, and music. Four years later, I and the team have a better understanding of the direction of music and Web3 than most people on the planet.

Getting into crypto was like a light bulb moment where I quickly knew that my life would change

Host: and please tell us about the background and experience of the MODA DAO development team? How big is the team right now?

Sean Gardner: We are using multiple teams. We have 2 developers in house, but for now, we are using a team with https://coina.ge/

They developed the smart contracts for Synthetix, and I have known the founder for 10 years

We also have Matt Brown working on some new audio fingerprinting algorithms https://www.modadao.io/people/matt-brown

Matty used to work at Dolby Digital

Just today we briefed Lukasz from code on canvas to deliver a visual element of this fingerprinting piece https://codeoncanvas.cc/

He has worked with Flume and Pnau plus many others and works alongside Sutu who has designed for The Weeknd and Google

Host: I am very excited to know more about the MODA DAO project, Can you please explain the main concept behind “MODA DAO”?

Sean Gardner: Really it’s a DAO-first project

this means that it is designed to be driven by the industry, we are birthing new tools and products into the industry that people are telling us they need

rather than building a product and then forming a DAO

in this way we are very very focused on inclusiveness and partnerships

We believe that value in the music industry supply chain should flow to those who most deserve it; the creators, their loyal teams, and the passionate superfans who follow them. MODA will bring that belief to life.

MODA will accelerate mainstream adoption of Web3 technology as a means to enable musicians and their audiences, as well as other industry participants, to engage in the music economy directly. To support this, MODA will increase its collaborations with other initiatives, projects, and companies that share a similar worldview.

Host: Wao that’s awesome

I was thinking about the “MODA DAO” name. what is the story behind this name?

Sean Gardner: MODA is really just a name, but there are many possible acronyms like “Management Of Decentralised Audio”

But people can make whatever they want of it

Host: What are your main features that distinguish you from other projects and what competitive advantages do you have?

Sean Gardner: The main thing with MODA is that we aim to uplift the entire Music / Web3 space

So it’s less about competition, more about partners

You could compare MODA to the Linux Foundation

Linux provides an operating system for a bunch of the world’s biggest computer companies, and it is funded by Google, Microsoft, IBM, etc

We believe that in order for the music industry to truly adopt Web3, we really need a project like MODA

of course, the tokenomics will benefit from the growth of the network — this is not about charity

The competitive advantages we have are:

- 4 years experience in blockchain/music

- Very deep music industry connections

- An inclusive approach

- A clear vision of what the future of music could look like and an ability to pursue it in a non-competitive way

This type of opensource approach is what makes a successful blockchain project, not so much like private companies who just launch a coin to raise some money

Host: Does MODA DAO have its native token? If yes can you please give us more details about its sales and listings?

Sean Gardner: Yes $MODA token is going to market within 4 weeks

we are just about to announce the closure of a $5m USD private round

We will launch in partnership with SushiSwap/ MISO and maybe one or two other smaller pools

We will have DEX trading for a short while and will then pursue some other CEX listings

Host: Do you have any plan to open a Marketplace for NFTs to buy with MODA tokens?

Sean Gardner: But my opinion is that there are many great marketplaces already and the marketplaces already have the audiences there. We kind a competitive advantage by giving artists tools for launching their NFT based music into these markets.

nobody has done audioNFTs properly yet

I am in discussion with OpenSean already about how we can integrate more tightly

2nd Segment: Questions from Twitter Announcement.

Host: We have picked some interesting questions from the Twitter announcement. I will share them here one by one.

6: One of the most important problems facing the music industry is the copyrights and the improper use of samples. Can you describe MODA DAO’s ownership and legal frameworks for this matter?

Question by MemoonaKhawar

Sean Gardner: Ok so we are going to run all audio through existing audio fingerprinting APIs which will tell us if the music has already been released. These are very accurate and already used by Spotify etc

Then we are creating our own algo to do an even better job before we put it on-chain

we are setting up a publishing entity within MODA too which will actually handle rights for the artists who want that service

we have a lot of experience in this area, most notably from these two people at the moment

7: Each project has interesting stories before it is created. So can you tell people about the story that gave you the motivation to build and develop a great project like yours?

Question by Nht25456236

Sean Gardner: To be honest, this story has just come from our 4 years already working in the space

we launched Emanate. live in 2019 and rarez.io in 2020

It’s become so obvious that Music3 will only come to fruition through a big, open, industry DAO

8: What are the main milestones on your road map, both in terms of what you’ve already accomplished and what we might expect in the future? Any partnerships or short/long-term technological achievements you’d like to discuss or draw attention to?

Question by itx_Aainee

Sean Gardner: The roadmap will be shaped by what the DAP proposes and votes on, but we have this outline

2021

Outlier Ventures Basecamp — MODA DAO inception

Private fundraising and industry recruitment

MODA Foundation incorporation

Contract creation and audit

Creative grants program initiation

TGE Event

DAO launch

Publishing entity established

Music3 Blueprint and Pilot releases

Staking and rewards contracts live

Voting commences

On-chain audio fingerprinting showcase

2022

Audio NFT Launchpad released

NFT aggregator/streaming

DDEX review

ISRC / ISRW on-chain proposal

Meta-data proposal

Media Storage proposal

2023

Onchain DDEX MVP

ISRC / ISRW MVP

Meta-data network MVP

2024

Fractionalized ownership frameworks

2025

Music rights fund/member catalogue buyback

2026

Fully autonomous DAO

I already mentioned the works in progress like the fingerprinter, the most obvious innovation that I am very excited about is an NFT aggregator that will allow artists on any blockchain to mint streamable NFT-based music that can be played easily in a native app and also used by developers

I also can’t say yet exactly what this bad boy will do but use your imagination:

Community Round:

Sean Gardner: BSC is possible for a bridge we are considering it

Sean Gardner: Long vesting schedules

19: How important is the COMMUNITY to you? and how can we collaborate or help you with the development of the project?

Sean Gardner: Community will be everything for MODA. Because the artists need to be looked after well, and the artists really value their fanbase. This combined with crypto loyalty and tribalism will make the community very important to us. People can help already be spreading the word and being useful on telegram and discord
